Celebrity trainer Robert Garcia said he is interested in coaching Errol Spence for his next fight. Robert believes he can help the 33-year-old Spence and feels he would be good to train alongside the Mexican fighter in his gym.
Former unified welterweight champion Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) is rumored to have recently parted ways with longtime coach Derrick James following his loss to Terrence Crawford last year.
Spence is one of WBC/WBO junior middleweight champion Sebastian Fundora's options for his next fight. If Errol wins the fight against the 6-foot-5-inch Fundora, he will likely need to cut weight as he looks heavier right now.
It would be better for Spence to start cutting weight now before training camp begins so as not to use his precious preparation time as a weight-loss farm.
Spence needs new training approach
When asked if he would like to train Errol Spence, trainer Robert Garcia said: “If he contacted me, I would definitely consider talking to him and talking.'' Dew,” he told 210Boxing. “It’s a challenge for me as well, so I would love to do that.
“Look at Marcos Maidana. When he came to me, he had the best salary of his life. Sometimes fighters need things like that. [to come to a Mexican boxing gym]. Maybe Spence needs something like that. ”
Robert will give Spence something different with his experience in training and could give Spence many new tools needed to fight Fundora and the 154-year-old.
“He already has a great style. He's pound-for-pound strength and was one of the best fighters in the world. It's just the little touches,” Robert said of Spence. “To be honest, it's going to be a challenge for me too. I don't mind. It's going to be a good challenge for me. I'd like to talk to him to put something together, how about that?”
Spence will not be able to train for the important fight with Fundora, as he has a win over Tim Tzu and a 2022 win over Eriksson Rubin. The fact that Fandora was good enough to defeat those fighters shows that he won't be an easy fight for Spence.
“I have a team too, and I'm going to discuss everything with the team. Why not? He still has a lot to do,” Garcia said.
