Bedfordview's Black Belt Martial Arts Academy won 19 gold medals, six silver medals and one bronze medal at the 2024 Songam Taekwondo South African Championships held from March 9-10.
Level 3 certified Taekwondo instructors and 4th degree black belts Submunim Marissa Katz and Submunim Faiyaz Khan led the academy.
The tournament was split into two days.

The Tournament of Champs on the first day showcased the top 2023 athletes competing for the title of U.S. Champion and a spot at the Songham Taekwondo World Championships to be held in the United States.
The second day was a family festival and the start of the 2024 competition year.
The results of the Tournament of Champions are as follows:

At the Family Festival showcase, they won 19 gold medals, 6 silver medals, and 1 bronze medal.
The club reflected on their success and said they look forward to continued success.
Submunim Fires is a two-time world champion and Submunim Marissa was the 2022 World Family Festival Champion.
Both have many years of experience teaching Songam Taekwondo.

They decided last year to partner up to open Black Belt Martial Arts in Bedfordview.
Since opening, the school has won first and third place for 2023 District School of the Year and 2023 District Instructor of the Year.
