Amesbury, Massachusetts – new student Macklin Celebrini and second year student Lane Hutson Members of the Boston University men's ice hockey team each received a monthly award from Hockey East, the league announced Monday.
After leading BU to its second straight Frozen Four appearance, Celebrini was named Hockey East's Rookie of the Month and Hutson was named Hockey East's Defender of the Month. This is Hutson's third such award, and in addition to being named the league's October Player of the Month, Chebrini has also been named Hockey East Player of the Month twice.
Celebrini scored 16 points (6g, 10a) in just seven games, ranking second in the nation among all players, and his 2.29 points per game was an NCAA high. He recorded at least one point in all seven games, including five multi-point games. This included both games in the NCAA Sioux Falls Regional Tournament, where he totaled five points (1G, 3A). Celebrini was named Regional Player of the Year after recording three key assists in the regional final against Minnesota and one goal and one assist in the semifinals against RIT. Celebrini, a Hobey Baker Award finalist, is the fourth player to be named Hockey East Rookie and Player of the Year in the same season.
Hutson finished with three goals and seven assists for 10 points, tying Celebrini for securing at least one point in all seven games. Two of his three points were game-winning shots, including the goal against Minnesota that broke a 3-3 tie in the second period. Hutson also ranked fourth in the nation with 14 blocks. His plus-8 rating in the seven games he played was the best of any defender in Hockey East. Hutson is a two-time Hockey East First Team All-Star and a Hobey Baker Award finalist, leading all active defensemen with 94 points in just 76 games. There is.
