PITTSBURGH — Former Pitt Panthers tight ends coach Tim Salem has taken a new job somewhere in the ACC, joining the team just in time for spring ball.
Salem, one of the original members of head coach Pat Narduzzi's Pitt University coaching staff, is currently on staff at Georgia Tech and serves as a special teams advisor to Yellow Jackets head coach Brent Key. ing. JacketsOnline.com's Kelly Quinlan first reported the news early last month. Salem was fired from his position at Pitt in January.
During his eight seasons coaching the Panthers, Salem helped develop Pitt's standout tight ends, including Gavin Bartholomew, Lukas Krull, Scott Orndorff and JP Holtz. Salem served as interim offensive coordinator during the 2022 Peach Bowl after Mark Whipple resigned from that position.
Before taking the job at Pitt, Salem spent three seasons as the special teams coordinator and running backs coach at the University of Illinois. Prior to that, from 2004 he coached running backs until 2011, and in 2007 he coached his team in specials while coordinating the offense at UCF. He also coached quarterbacks at Ohio State and Purdue and served as the Boilermakers' offensive coordinator from 1994 to 1996. Salem also had strong performances at Colorado State University, University of Phoenix, and Arizona State University.
