Former mixed martial arts coach James Krause, the man at the center of an alleged match-fixing scandal, resurfaced over the weekend, announcing he was deep in debt and now battling the real estate world.
“I'm over $5 million in debt and I can't sleep a second because of it,” Krause wrote in a Facebook post before discussing the details of her real estate investment.
Krauss has been suspended indefinitely by the UFC, and the promotion said in November 2022 that there was a suspicious gambling pattern against Krauss, resulting in a first-round loss by fellow fighter Darrick Miner. The promotion announced that they are investigating Klaus' role.
Krause was suspended by the UFC, and the promotion told fighters they would be barred from competing if they continued to work with Krause.
Now a former mixed martial arts coach, he has rebranded his Facebook page to promote a series of real estate investments that have been considered successful during his short career.
He appears to have sold, flipped, and renovated several properties during his short career, including one that was originally listed for $239,000.
But UFC President Dana White previously had a more dire prediction about whether he would indeed be found guilty of match-fixing stemming from a minor fight in November.
“Do you know what the outcome of this is going to be?” White said when asked about the investigation. “If I punish them, they'll get a reduced sentence, but if they're that motherfucker they'll go to federal prison, federal prison… There's not enough money for that.”
The sportsbook initially flagged suspicious betting patterns on bouts involving Krause's fighter, Mina, and his opponent, Shayilan Nuerdambique.
With MMA no longer a viable option, Krause appears to have pursued real estate as a new business endeavor.
Although the former mixed martial arts coach appears to be passionate about real estate, his gambling habit was actually the most lucrative part of his career at one point.
“I make more gambling money doing MMA than I do anything else,” Krause said in an August 2022 podcast appearance.
Krause said he would receive 10 percent of a fighter's total compensation from the UFC, which could range from $20,000 to more than $40,000 per fight.
The match-fixing scandal was one of the first seen since sports betting was legalized nationwide, but the conclusion of the investigation has not yet been announced.
