Michigan State University Hockey District Finals, folks.
After an upset win over Western Michigan on Friday, Michigan State heads to the regional finals to face a familiar foe, Michigan State.
The Wolverines also won their first-round game, but needed a strong performance to do so. North Dakota enters the NCAA Tournament as the No. 5 team in the nation, and Michigan has set up Game 6 against Michigan State on Sunday night.
The Michigan State game got a little more interesting as the Spartans fought back from a 4-2 deficit in the third period to defeat Western Michigan in overtime. The goal with less than a minute left in regulation sent overtime, and while Trey Augustin shut the door late, the Spartans scored nine minutes into overtime to send the Broncos home.
The Spartans will now play Michigan for the sixth time, with a spot in the Frozen Four at stake. Michigan State played the Wolverines in the Big Ten title game just last weekend, with the Spartans winning in a thriller overtime. Michigan State is looking for revenge.
This match will not be easy for either side to win. It's hard to beat a team 5 times (!!) in one season, so MSU has their work cut out and the Wolverines still haven't figured out the Spartans.
However, here's how to watch Sunday's regional finals.
where: Maryland Heights, Missouri
when: 6:30pm ET
TV channel: ESPN2
Live stream: ESPN+
That's right, Spartan fans. You'll have a chance to interrupt Easter dinner by celebrating a goal or going on a rant. I can't think of a better way to spend Easter Sunday.
