Erislandy Lara retained his status as boxing's oldest world champion by knocking out Michael Zerafa on Saturday night.
The 40-year-old Cuban was recently promoted to WBA middleweight champion and successfully defended the belt in his first title defense.
Lara has been making waves in the boxing world for a decade.
He lost a close decision to Canelo Alvarez in 2014 and has been considered a difficult customer ever since.
Lara bounced back from this loss and won the WBA “regular” super welterweight belt.
In 2016, he was promoted to the outright WBA Super Welterweight World Champion and held the title for two years until being dethroned by Jarrett Hurd.
Lara moved up to middleweight and followed the same path in 2021, winning the WBA “regular” belt for the first time.
Last year, he was promoted to outright WBA middleweight world champion, making him the oldest titleholder in boxing.
Of course, many people feel that Lala, now 40 years old, is far more capable of winning than she was in her prime.
But on Saturday night, he showed he still has a lot left to offer.
Lara defended his title against Michael Zerafa on the undercard of Tim Tzu vs. Sebastian Fundora.
He defeated a man eight years his junior with a stunning one-punch KO in the second round.
It was a straight left hand that sent Zerafa into the ropes.
He got back up, but stumbled and fell into the ropes, causing the referee to stop the match.
