- Carl Froch has reinforced his belief that Tyson Fury's boxing career is much more than that.
- Cobra highlighted Fury's poor performance against Francis Ngannou, comparing him to Anthony Joshua.
- Froch also questioned the legitimacy of Fury's biggest career win over Wladimir Klitschko.
Carl Froch further strengthens his strong belief about Tyson Fury's boxing history, telling his loyal fans the “hard truth” in the process, with a close victory over boxing debutant Francis Ngannou, who has given Gypsy the title of He suggested that King's legacy was “in tatters.”
Fury faced Ngannou at the Battle of the Baddest in October 2023, and many believed it would be an easy fight for the former unified heavyweight titleholder. However, as the fight progressed, it was clear that he would struggle for the Brit, going down in just the third round. Fury ultimately won on points, but many fans and pundits found this controversial and felt as if Ngannou had the upper hand and was robbed of his first victory.
Following this, Ngannou faced Anthony Joshua, and Joshua completely obliterated him, producing a clean knockout in the second round to win the fight. Before this fight, many believed that Ngannou was the great fighter who nearly stopped Fury, but Joshua showed his class and put an end to that debate.
Karl Froch appears on Tyson Fury's resume
Fury's narrow victory caused Carl Froch to question the legitimacy of the Gypsy King's legacy, and according to the Daily Star he told Lucky Brock: “His best win was Klitschko at 40 years old. There's no need to repeat it. He beat four world champions. He had three great fights with Deontay Wilder, but he won all three of them. I couldn't. But is that your resume? A guy named Steve Cunningham, who was a feisty cruiserweight who beat Deontay Wilder, Klitschko, and Fury.”
How other boxers dealt with opponents like Tyson Fury
Froch questioned the legitimacy of his unanimous decision victory over Wladimir Klitschko, claiming the age difference between the two fighters was a key factor. Fury was 13 years younger than the aging Klitschko and defeated him by a narrow margin. Just two years later, Joshua faced Dr. Steelhammer and lost by TKO in the 11th round after a series of brutal uppercuts and punches.
Questions also arise about Fury's performance against the Copper Bomber after a poor performance in the match when Deontay Wilder faced Joseph Parker in December 2023 and the New Zealand boxer easily defeated Wilder. Ta. Fury and Wilder fought three times, with the former winning twice and drawing once, creating one of the greatest heavyweight fights of all time. In the first fight, the Briton shocked the world by getting back up in the 12th round after being knocked down by the American's “perfect punch.” Fury then went on to win the next two matches of both men's trilogies.
On the same night as Wilder vs. Parker, Anthony Joshua also faced a former challenger to Tyson Fury in Otto Wallin. In September 2019, Fury defeated Wallin by unanimous decision (116-112, 117-111, 118-110) after 12 rounds, but was seriously injured by the Swede's big left hand in the final round, and on this day… was very harmful and could have cost us the match. However, when Joshua faced Wallin in December 2023, he easily defeated Wallin, overwhelming him before being pulled away in the corner after five rounds. He has a competitive matchup against Fury, but an easy matchup for AJ.
Tyson Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk Full Undercard
The rest of the Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk card has been announced, much to the dismay of boxing fans online.
Froch added: “And he had a tough time against Otto Wallin. He could have stopped the fight, but he still won. The problem with people is that sometimes they don't want to hear criticism. And I'm very honest. That is the hard truth.”
What's next for Tyson Fury?
Fury is currently scheduled to face current WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight world champion Oleksandr Usyk. The bout was originally scheduled for February 17, but was canceled two weeks before the bout due to Fury having significantly less sparring.
“The plan is May 18th. Unification of the heavyweight titles. Something like this hasn't happened since Lennox Lewis in '98. But I'm still not convinced with Fury. Tyson Fury's heart is gone. I don’t think it’s in the game,” Froch concluded.
Cobra continued to stand his ground, criticizing Fury's legacy, so John Fury called him to a fight.
