Weidman's professional mixed martial arts debut came with a quick victory over Ruben Lopez at Rui Neglia's Ring of Combat 23, where he won against Kimura within two minutes of the first round. Weidman fought three more times under the Ring of Combat banner, securing three more victories. That includes winning the Ring of Combat Middleweight Championship against former UFC veteran Uriah Hall, which he defended once before his UFC debut.
His UFC debut was a unanimous decision victory over Alessio Sakara on March 3, 2011, improving his professional record to 5-0.

Leading up to his first championship fight, Weidman boasted a 9-0 record and quickly made a name for himself with a five-fight winning streak in the UFC, including two submission wins and one knockout victory.
Weidman fell just short of the top spot in his division, but standing in his way to the championship gold medal was Anderson Silva, who was on an unforgettable, record-breaking 16-fight winning streak.
Weidman's MMA career was highlighted by his tenure as UFC middleweight champion, winning the title with a stunning upset over Anderson Silva at UFC 162.
