Sterling Porcher, transferred from Middle Tennessee State as part of Texas Tech's offensive line overhaul, appears to be the frontrunner to be the starting left tackle in 2024.
Who will Porsche compete with and can they replace Monroe Mills' 2023 production who transferred to Louisville?
Stirling Portill
position: offensive tackle
Year: Senior
2023 Statistics (Middle Tennessee): 12 games, Pro Football Focus grade 52.5, pass block grade 62.2, PFF run block grade 46.8.
Before landing in Lubbock, Polcher was a two-year starter for the Blue Raiders. He spent two seasons at Iowa Western Junior College before he transferred to MTSU.
Earning the opportunity to play Power Five football with the Red Raiders was very important to Polcher during the winter recruiting process, but he's not completely locked into a starting role.
Competing with Porsche is Maurice Rodriques, a transfer from Saddleback CC (Calif.) who chose the Red Raiders over offers from USC, UCLA and Georgia in the transfer portal. He is considered to have a very high ceiling.
The question throughout spring training will be who will pull away in the battle for position. Blocking quarterback Behren Morton and running back Taj Brooks will be critical for the Red Raiders this season.
