Sean Strickland has made a big change in mentality since losing his title to D'Ricas du Plessis at UFC 297 in January.
Since returning as a middleweight in 2020, “Tarzan” has been the consummate company man. The departure was something of a turning point for Strickland, who had been a very polite and quiet welterweight contender until a near-fatal motorcycle accident. He is now a 185-pound challenger and Being a former champion, he is open to fighting all-comers. But Mr. Strickland, 33, is maintaining his position on what he wants next.
The split decision loss to du Plessis makes a strong case that Strickland should have won. Thanks to his outspoken personality, the 34-fight (28-6) veteran believes he is either silent or being phased out of the spotlight now that he no longer holds the title. .
“UFC fans want me and Doricus to end this fight,” Strickland tweeted. “Dorikas wants to settle things. Everyone knows I fought in a shitty liberal country. Dana [White] I know that. The UFC knows that.
“With any other fighter on the roster, a rematch would have happened! Do the right thing, UFC.”
Strickland followed up on his comments and even claimed that Canada was trying to cancel the main event of UFC 297, where the fight was held in Toronto, Ontario. Strickland's media day appearance during that fight week was controversial, but as is often the case with him, it didn't lead to any changes.
At his pregame press conference the next day and on game night, Strickland still received plenty of cheering from Toronto fans.
“No, hey, it's a fact… believe me…” when a Twitter user said that without a rematch with du Plessis, there's no way to prove he was intentionally robbed , Strickland replied. “Canada absolutely hated me and threatened to pull me out.
“You know, I’m not going to climb that damn ladder anymore, if that’s not for me. [I don’t know], Boxing… Beat Jake Paul and make millions (LOL). ”
State bias theories have been interesting throughout MMA history, but are usually irrelevant when it comes to the sport's biggest events. As in the case of Strickland vs. du Plessis, veteran judges often travel from country to country to work on this important fight regardless of location. Sal D'Amato, Eric Colon, and Derek Cleary are the three longest-tenured judges in MMA and were assigned the middleweight tilt.
Boxing is an interesting concept for Strickland's future in combat, but it won't happen anytime soon unless he can get out of his UFC contract. Considering only his suspicions, the following can be considered. less Such things are more likely to happen than usual.
In the end, Mr. Strickland ended the prosecution session the only way he knew how: by admission.
“Okay, everyone! It's over!” Strickland tweeted an hour later. “Thank you for hanging out with me even when I'm a female outlet! I hope you're at home with sexy women, surrounded by guns and meat.
“If you are neither of those, you can choose to be an ugly woman, but don’t compromise on guns!!!”
