Enthusiasm for martial arts is alive and well in the Rockaways, where 11 young karate practitioners, under the caring tutelage of the wonderful Sensei Mike, put their skills to work at the acclaimed America's Cup Championships held recently on Long Island, New York. I showed it off. These students, Danny, Daniela, Valerie, Lauvia, Haley, Peyton, Sean, Marisa, Omar, Pauline, and Julian C., competed with enthusiasm and outstanding skill, demonstrating what the Rockaways can offer.
Four different rings were set up and the cheers of supporters and the sight of a packed car park painted a picture of enthusiasm and camaraderie. The competition was fierce, and the Rockaways' young athletes rose to the challenge and brought home commendable medals with six gold, five silver, and seven bronze medals, as well as impressive performances in three categories: Kata, Kumite, and Hand. Achieved 4th place. Team Kata performance. The latter won two gold medals out of two performances. Each participant demonstrated their physical ability and core values of respect, discipline, and patience.
This event marks a new beginning for their training center, previously known as World Champions Karate Center and now rebranded as ZenTora, symbolizing the “Tiger of Bliss.” Although the name may have changed, the spirit and values remain strong. ZenTora continues the tradition of its previous name and is equally dedicated to nurturing young talent.
