Plano West is the only girls soccer team in UIL history to win the state championship three years in a row, winning titles in 2000, 2001 and 2002. This season, Serena has a chance to match that feat.
Celina continued its quest for a third consecutive Class 4A state title by defeating Pinkston 9-0 in Thursday's area round playoff game. Sammy Quiroz scored three goals, and freshmen Hannah Holland, Riley Stiflemyre, Ashton Lowry, Claire Flowers, Charlie Schneider and Ella Norman also scored for Celina, which won 16 straight in the playoffs and During the winning streak, they outscored their opponents 97-8.
Quiroz and Holland combined for seven of Serena's 12 goals in two playoff games.
Celina, seeking its fourth consecutive state tournament appearance, is averaging 5.3 goals per game and outscoring opponents 133-6. They picked up where they left off last season, defeating Stephenville 8-1 in the state championship game, finishing 29-0 and joining Highland Park in 2017 and Humble-Kingwood in 1995 to go undefeated to state. They were the only UIL women's team to win. And no tie.
Serena enters this season on a 58-game undefeated streak and has won her last 14 games to improve to 21-2-2 this year. Despite losing All-Area Player of the Year Lexi Tuite to graduation after Tuite scored 64 goals in 2023 and became the first girl in UIL history to score five goals in a state tournament game. However, the school continued to maintain its dominance.
Frisco Wakeland 7, WT White 0: Freshman Dylan Pistorius scored three goals and Wakeland continued its quest for a historic undefeated season with a dominant victory in the Class 5A area round playoff game.
There have been 12 undefeated girls state champions in UIL history, nine of which have been held by Dallas-area teams. Wakeland (21-0-2), as well as Colleyville Heritage (20-0-2), Southlake Carroll (22-0-1) and Duncanville (20-0-1) You have a chance to join that group.
Colleyville Heritage defeated Azure on Thursday, and Carroll and Duncanville will play on Friday.
Audrey Gilbert, Emma Sapp, Eva Yocum and Zara Pasha also scored for Wakeland, which is ranked No. 1 in the area and No. 8 in the state in 5A. Wakeland outscored opponents 105-12 and recorded 16 shutouts.
This is the seventh straight season Wakeland has advanced to the third round of the playoffs, excluding 2020, when there was no postseason play due to the pandemic. Those dominant accomplishments include state titles in 2018 and his 2022, and state runner-up in 2021.
Wakeland advances to play District 10-5A champion Prosper Walnut Grove on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at McKinney Boyd. Walnut Grove defeated Sunset 5-0 on Thursday.
Colleyville Heritage 6, Azure 0: Rice signee Allie Love and freshman Addison Simic each scored two goals as Colleyville Heritage, the 7-0 5A district champion and ranked No. 5 in the state, extended its winning streak to 10.
Freshmen Addison Bizjak and Ashlyn Brindahl also scored, and Love and freshman Emmersen Andries each had two assists. Heritage outscored their opponents 111-13.
Colleyville Heritage advanced to the regional quarterfinals for the third time in four years, with the 2022 team advancing to the 5A Region I finals. The only time Heritage did not advance to the third round during this period was last year when they lost to Midlothian in the first round. That will be your next opponent.
Frisco Reedy 5, Hillcrest 1: Ashley Rabinowitz scored two goals, and Lily Troiano, Kyla Boa and Zahra Jacobs also had goals to lead Reedy to the area round victory. It was the eighth straight win for Reedy, the No. 3 seed in District 9-5A.
Reedy (16-6-3) is looking to make the playoffs again after reaching last year's 5A Region II final, losing in a shootout to Frisco. Reedy was playing in the regional tournament for the first time and was one win away from returning.
Rockwall 1, Mansfield 0: Morgan Countryman gave Rockwall a 1-0 lead in the first half with a goal off a rebound, which was the only point of the game.
Rockwall will aim to advance to the regional quarterfinals for the third year in a row. They were the Class 6A state runner-up in 2022, losing to Southlake Carroll in the championship game.
Keller Timber Creek 2, San Angelo Central 0 (OT): Abby Barrios scored in the first overtime period and Tomai Triplett added a goal in the second overtime period as Timber Creek, the No. 4 seed in District 4-6A, advanced to the 6A Region I quarterfinals.
Timber Creek is one of three District 4-6A teams left in the playoffs after Keller lost to Wolff Frenchship in Thursday's shootout. District 4-6A champion Southlake Carroll and 4-6A runner-up Trophy Club Byron Nelson will play area round games on Friday, while Timbercreek awaits the winner of the Carroll-Midland game.
Anna 5, North Dallas 1: Ella Anderson scored three goals and Isabel Lopez and Alyssa Gonzalez each added one goal in Anna's 4A area round win.
This is the fourth consecutive season that Anna (20-3) has advanced to the regional quarterfinals. Anna was a regional finalist last season, losing to eventual state champion Celina in the 4A Region II championship game.
Denton 2, Aledo 1: First-half goals from Chris Guillen and Jose Blas advanced Denton to the third round of the playoffs for the first time since 2015.
Prosper Walnut Grove 1, WT White 0: Ryan Schreiber scored the only goal off an assist from Luke Bittner. First-year-old Walnut Grove advances to play the winner of Friday's game between Frisco Wakeland and Mesquite Poteet.
El Paso Montwood 2, Euless Trinity 1: Montwood, the No. 3 seed in District 1-6A, surprised 3-6A champion Trinity in the second round of the playoffs. Montwood awaits the winner of Friday's game between Keller and El Paso Pebble Hills.
