Mike Hart was a fan favorite, favorite son, and amazing talent developer, but his recruiting ability wasn't as well-known during his time in Ann Arbor. The Harts acquired Jordan Marshall, an Ohio State native who defeated his hometown Buckeyes in favor of Michigan football, but when it comes to other prospects other than Marshall, the Harts didn't have much of an advantage in terms of acquiring highly rated players. It wasn't.
Former Ohio State running backs coach Tony Alford will be featured. He started spring ball in Columbus before defecting to Ann Arbor. Known for developing players like JK Dobbins and scouting Treveyon Henderson (who committed to OSU unseen), he's already become much more aggressive when it comes to attacking recruiting routes.
More evidence of that emerged Thursday with the latest offer: 2026 Woodbury Forest (Va.) five-star running back Savion Heiter.
Heiter is listed by the 247Sports Composite as the top running back in the 2026 class and the No. 10 overall player in the country, regardless of position.
He has 21 reported offers, including one from Alford during his tenure at Ohio State.
The 5-foot-11, 182-pound Highter will attract applicants from all over the country, including other elite schools such as Alabama and Georgia. However, with Alford leading the way and the University of Michigan's offensive philosophy, it would make sense for the Wolverines to add him to the team.
