Matildas' main midfielder Katrina Gorey is in doubt for her Olympic appearance after the West Ham star announced her season is over with an ankle injury.
The 31-year-old Dynamo was sent off in the 21st minute of West Ham's 2-0 defeat to Chelsea in the Women's Super League at the weekend and left the stadium with her right foot in a moon boot.
On Wednesday, the London-based goalie posted a message on social media saying the WSL season was over.
“I have been living with my emotions for the past few days,” she wrote.
“Now is the time to face the next challenge and trust your body to come back stronger.”
There are five rounds left in the Women's Super League and the competition is scheduled to conclude in mid-May.
Gorey and Arsenal's Keira Cooney-Cross formed a formidable partnership in central midfield for the Matildas. The first match of the Olympic soccer tournament will be against Germany in Marseille on 25 July (26 July Australian Eastern Time).
The potential absence of Gorey is not the only concern for Matildas coach Toni Gustafsson. Gustafsson has already had to rejig his squad to deal with the loss of injured goal machine Sam Kerr.
First-choice central defender Claire Hunt missed her club Paris Saint-Germain's 3-1 win over Montpellier on Monday, with French media reporting she had suffered a stress fracture in her foot.
Depending on the severity of the injury, Hunt could face a race against time to qualify for the Olympics.
The Matildas next play Mexico on April 10 in Texas before playing their Olympic farewell match against China on May 31 at Adelaide Oval.
