Two talented young fighters from Cumbria have returned from the Junior National Championships as gold medalists.
Colin Rees, 15, and Macy Rickerby, 8, won double gold medals at the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Junior National Championships held in Wolverhampton on March 23rd and 24th.

Colin and Macy competed in a tournament in Wolverhampton as part of Carlisle's Razzie Rollers.
The small team of nine athletes, accompanied by coaches Kit Wilson and Songhae Wilson and their parents, won six gold, six silver and two bronze medals over the two-day event.
On the first day, he competed wearing a gi, a type of martial arts uniform, and on the second day, he competed without one.

Originating from Brazil, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu emphasizes leverage and technique, using joint locks, chokes, and positional control to allow smaller individuals to defend themselves against larger opponents.
Jiu-jitsu has grown in popularity over the past decade due to increased interest in mixed martial arts (MMA) matches that incorporate more Jiu-jitsu into the matches.

In the competition, the team played competitive matches and produced impressive results that they can build on for the next tournament.
A spokesperson for the Razzie Rollers said: “From executing takedowns to finishing submissions, these young athletes showed the fruits of their discipline and determination in training.
“The team is already focused on the next competition in July. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is not only a physically demanding sport, but also one that benefits through problem-solving, building confidence and self-esteem, discipline, focus, respect, and camaraderie. I will bring it.”
