DULUTH, Minn. – It's been nearly two weeks since the UMD women's hockey team ended its season in the NCAA Tournament with a loss to No. 1 Ohio State in the regional final.
Of course, the season didn't end the way they wanted. However, there were still plenty of positives about this year's team.
That includes big wins over Colgate, Wisconsin and St. Cloud State, as well as a thrilling double-overtime game against UCONN in the regional semifinals.
Head coach Maura Crowell said Wednesday in her final press conference of the season that her performance in this tournament is what she's most proud of, given how the team responded with so much talent leaving the year before. He said that this is what he is doing.
“There's a lot of big shoes to fill. I think our returners have come in and stepped up and you know some of those things are unpredictable. You might be expecting… But the way our returners came and stepped up, the way our leadership stepped up, the way the kids we picked up in the transfer portal came and made a huge impact on our program. This year. “I think it's been a really challenging and at times tough year,” Crowell said.
Crowell added that there's no need to make any big speeches yet for next season. Her returnee has already been decided.
“When I talked to the returning players, I found that the last game left a sour taste in their mouth. They're going to be motivated all offseason. There's a lot of success and growth from failure. , so that's what we're hoping for,” Crowell added.
