hyderabad:
A woman and her minor daughter, who are trained in martial arts, displayed indomitable courage when they thwarted a robbery plot by two armed men at their home in Begumpet.
Police arrested two suspects. Identified as Sushil Kumar and Premchandra, they hail from Kanpur in Uttar Pradesh.
The two were planning to rob a house. They also gave a lecture before breaking into the house.
Around 1:00 pm on March 21st, the suspect visited his home posing as a courier. Amita Mahhot, the owner of the house, was at home, but a servant went to pick up the delivery. Two suspects with their faces covered – one in a helmet and the other in a mask – forced their way into the house.
One of the defendants entered the kitchen and threatened the maid with a knife.
Amita's teenage daughter tried to stop the other defendant and a scuffle broke out between the two. Amita, 46, resisted the robbery attempt with her daughter.
During the scuffle, the defendant pulled out a domestically-made handgun and pointed it at the mother-daughter duo. However, Amita, who is trained in martial arts, kicks him and disarms him. She hurled punches at the accused, who then fled the scene. However, his accomplice, who was inside the kitchen, was unaware of what was happening outside.
Nearby residents heard noises coming from the house and caught the second robber.
He was handed over to the police. Police later caught his colleague who fled the scene.
Police praised the mother-daughter duo for showing exemplary courage.
“It is pertinent to state that the courage shown by mother Amita and her daughter is exemplary…” DCP (North Zone) Rohini Priyadarshini said in a release.
The DCP appreciated the courage of the mother and daughter.
Police also recovered a rope, a tapancha weapon, rubber bullet casings, two knives and a gift paper box.
