The Philadelphia 76ers and New York Knicks made history in a low-scoring game Sunday night.
The 76ers won by a final score of 79-73, marking the first game since January 2016 in which neither team reached 80 points.
All-Star point guard Jalen Brunson led all scorers with 19 points, although he was just 6-22 from the field. Kelly Oubre Jr. paced the 76ers with 18 points of his own, making just 6 of 19 from the field.
Both teams shot less than 40 percent from the field, and their shooting accuracy from behind the arc was unsightly. The Knicks made 23 percent of their 40 three-pointers, while the 76ers made 30 percent of their triples while making 30 long-range shots.
It's worth noting that each team was dealing with player injuries that were likely to push up the final score. Philadelphia was without its All-Star duo of Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. Meanwhile, the Knicks were playing without Julius Randle and OG Anunoby.
New York held the Orlando Magic to 74 points on Friday, the team's lowest points total in a game in the 2023-24 season. Two days later, the Knicks took possession of the new mark.
The 76ers currently own the No. 6 seed in the Eastern Conference with a record of 36-28, so this remains an important win for a Philadelphia team hoping to avoid the play-in tournament. The Knicks retained the No. 4 seed with a record of 37 wins and 27 losses.
The teams are scheduled to play again on Tuesday in a game that will likely feature improved offensive efficiency compared to Sunday night's game.
