As the 2024 women's soccer season gets underway, here are five players to watch in the NewsTribune area this spring.
Crystal Garcia Jr., Mendota
Garcia was one of the area's top offensive weapons last season, scoring 29 goals, second in the area. She scored goals in all but two matches. Mendota coach Nick Myers expects the Trojans to have more scoring options this spring, and Garcia, who was the centerpiece of opposing defenses last year, could get a chance.
Litzy Lopez Jr., La Salle Peru
Lopez played for the Cavaliers his first two years in high school, missing last season with a knee injury. She had 20 goals and 16 assists in her first two seasons and was a two-time News Tribune All-Area selection. Lopez returned to the field in LP's second game against Rock Island this spring, and she made an immediate impact with a goal and an assist.
Lisbeth Pass, Sr., F, Depew
Pass was the Little Giants' best offensive player last season, scoring 16 goals. She is expected to lead the DePuy Hall attack again this spring.
Danica Scoma, Sr., La Salle Peru
Skoma became the area's leading scorer, setting a school record for points in a season with 30 points, tied for the top of the Interstate 8 Conference. She was named the 2023 NewsTribune Female Soccer Player of the Year.
Kayley Seamer Jr. D, Mendota
Seamer will be the leader of a talented and experienced Mendota defense this spring. “Kayley Seamer reads the ball and the rest of our offense very well and has elite speed that allows her to track forwards as they weave through our backline,” Mendota coach Nick Myers said.
