background: Search for Kody Steele on Google and you'll see his grappling credentials. It all started from there. Born in Washington, Steele spent more than a decade in Austin, Texas, where he made a name for himself and demonstrated his black belt prowess on the national and international stage. Grappling was useful, but it was never supposed to be a special challenge. Steele has wanted to be a mixed martial artist since high school. After two fights as an amateur, Steele was undefeated, but he wasn't completely satisfied with his progress. The martial arts world in Austin, Texas was somewhat limited, so he took time off to travel and get advice from various coaches. Eventually, Steele moved to Las Vegas, training with Syndicate MMA and 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu, and taking occasional sessions at the UFC Performance Institute. Steele turned professional in early 2022, playing all of his matches under the Fury FC banner and amassing a 5-0 record.
thin: Steele's grappling resume is very impressive and when you watch him on the ground in an MMA match, he looks like a wizard. Steele is one of the hottest prospects on the local Texas scene. of Most advertised. He will be a mainstay of Fury FC no matter how long the promotion lasts. Steele will be the first to tell you that he still has a lot of room to grow and improve, but Steele is an example of a guy who could probably beat some guys on the UFC roster on an off night. The question is how much progress he feels to start his UFC tenure and move forward as far as possible.
in his own words: “[My recent move to Las Vegas]was honestly one of the hardest things I've ever done. I left everything behind, my family, my friends, my job, my life. I moved it all back home. I never left it forever because it's always there for me. But it was very difficult mentally to make that decision. But in my head All I was thinking about was that one day I was going to be in a cage fighting against these guys who trained MMA every day. In my case, I was in Texas and I was training MMA. I didn't do it at all, or I wasn't able to train properly, so I had to think about it. If you want big things in life and you're chasing a goal, you have to make sacrifices to achieve your goal. think.
“…I’ve had seven MMA fights so far. To be honest, I’ve had seven MMA fights but I haven’t had any proper MMA training. I lived in Austin and there was no MMA training there. I only did Jiu-Jitsu, I only did Muay Thai. I studied, punched bags, drilled on the sides as much as I could. That got me this far, but I still didn't have an MMA coach. I didn't have much. So I was in Las Vegas and lived here for three months. I have a coach now. I have a training partner. I have boxing, kickboxing, striking, MMA, everything. I have a MMA jiu-jitsu coach.
“I've learned a lot and now I'm in a position where I'm constantly learning. I'm still growing, but I think it's going to change a lot. I look like I'm a lot lighter on my feet. Take with the punches. I'm going to connect down. I have a system and I think it's going to make a big difference. That's why I'm so excited for this fight. I'm going to go out there and test all the new tools and I’ll see where I am from there.”
