On April 4, the Tigers acquired four-star quarterback Matt Zollers from Royersford, Pennsylvania. This will be the first acquisition of Missouri football's 2025 class.
Zollers decided between Georgia, Penn State and Pittsburgh. By the end of his recruitment, it looked as if he had risen to the top of Georgia as well as Missouri. Zollers has a brother, freshman defensive end Zach Zollers, who is a walk-on for the Pitt Panthers.
The Panthers already have three-star Mason Heintchel committed to the quarterback position, and Penn State also has Beckem Kritza. The Bulldogs and the University of Missouri were the two schools on his shortlist that did not qualify for the quarterback position.
Being able to pry in-state prospects from Penn State and Pitt bodes well for the Tigers. Penn State is not an area the Tigers typically recruit from, so pulling Zollers away was both surprising and impressive.
Zollers is the No. 78 overall player in the nation, the No. 8 quarterback and No. 2 player in Penn State behind Ohio State's Zahir Mathis. He is the No. 17 player in the country in his On3 rankings and is also the third-best quarterback.
The Tigers, the first commitment in this class, currently sit 62nd in the team standings.
Zollers' addition could have a domino effect with other teams, as the Tigers are busy scheduling visits and extending offers. Names like Dillon Alfred, Corey Sims, Dante McClellan, and Daden Hopkins could be the next to commit soon.
