Another Michigan football official visit in June turned into a commitment.
Philip Wright, a three-star wide receiver in the class of 2025 from Destrehan, Louisiana, committed to the Wolverines on Saturday over other Division I powerhouses such as Baylor, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Miami (Fla.), Louisiana State and Texas A&M. The Tigers and Bulldogs were among the finalists along with the Wolverines.
Wright, who took his official visit to Ann Arbor on June 14 between visits to Baylor University, the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech, is ranked as the No. 21 prospect in the state of Louisiana, the No. 33 athlete in the country and the No. 534 overall player for his class, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
On court:For 7-foot-tall Danny Wolf, it was second time lucky in Michigan basketball.
Wright is small at 5'11 and 160 pounds, but makes up for it with exceptional speed. As a high school senior, Wright ran a 10.46 second 100-yard dash and a 20.89 second 200-yard dash and qualified for the Louisiana State Meet in all three of his high school seasons.
Wright becomes the second wide receiver to be drafted by head coach Sherone Moore and wide receivers coach Ron Bellamy in the class of 2025. Wright joins four-star recruit Jacob Washington (Marrero, Louisiana), who is based at Bellamy's alma mater, a little over 20 miles east of Destrehan, a suburb of New Orleans.
Michigan's Class of 2025 got off to a slow start, but after recruiting 12 top prospects since early June, Moore and the team are close to completing a class that is now ranked 12th in the country with 16 players committed, according to 247 Sports.
