A look back at the 2024 Olympic Games season
Player of the Year
Mackenzie Borbi, Shawnee
The junior continues to be one of the best players in South Jersey, and perhaps the entire state. Bolbi was a key player in Shawnee's 16-5 season, which saw the team reach the district finals. She scored a career-high 59 goals and scored 73 points. Those goals helped her surpass 100 career goals. She also surpassed 100 draw controls for the third consecutive year.
Coach of the Year
Jill McCarthy, Pope Paul VI
McCarthy's arrival marked a turning point for Paul VI. As an assistant in 2023, McCarthy oversaw the team finish with an 8-9 record. In her first year as head coach, she led the program to a six-win improvement and a 14-5 overall record. The team's offense skyrocketed from 191 goals last spring to 313 in 2024. The defense also allowed 31 fewer goals despite playing two more games. Paul VI won both state tournament games for the first time since 2018, defeating Immaculata and Immaculate Heart to reach the Non-Public A semifinals.
Team of the Year
Moorestown
The Quakers lived up to the expectations, entering the season as the favorite to be the strongest team in Southern New Jersey. This team was motivated from the moment the final buzzer sounded after losing to Shawnee in last spring's regional finals, and they're looking to get revenge in 2024. Moorestown took home the American Section championship with a perfect 5-0 record, winning all 14 of their first in-state matches of the season. The team defeated Shawnee to claim the Southern New Jersey Group 3 title once again, coming within one goal of winning the state title.
