As if the fiercely contested Olympic qualifying events in Poland, Italy and Bangkok weren't enough, the IOC was forced to eliminate one of the eight men's weight classes and create a sixth for women instead. This is a perfectly sound logistical decision, but it could lead to increased competition for limited team spots and a David vs. Goliath showdown.
Men's matches consist of three three-minute rounds, while women's matches consist of four two-minute rounds. Professional eligibility to compete in the Olympics was abolished in 2016, but relatively few athletes will compete in Rio and Tokyo, and none will compete in Paris.
