The 2024 NBA Playoffs Conference Finals are underway, with the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks both two wins away from the NBA Finals. Holding a 2-0 lead over the Indiana Pacers, the Celtics have a chance to take a commanding 3-0 lead Saturday night in Indiana. The Pacers are yet to lose in these playoffs. Boston, the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, won Game 1 in overtime and then ran away with Game 2 against the Pacers earlier this week.
In the Conference Finals, the Mavericks hold an even more surprising 2-0 lead in the series. They lead 2-0 against the Minnesota Timberwolves after a clutch 3-pointer from Luka Doncic led Dallas to a one-point victory. The Mavericks have won both games so far in Minneapolis and now return to Dallas with a chance to finish off the series at home. Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals is scheduled for Sunday.
Regardless of which of the remaining four teams wins the title in 2024, the NBA will have its sixth different champion in six years. Something that hasn't happened since 1975-1980.
The postseason was originally limited to 20 teams, but has now been narrowed down to four. The Warriors, Kings, Hawks and Bulls were eliminated in the play-in tournament, while the Pelicans, Suns, Clippers, Lakers, Heat, 76ers, Bucks and Magic were eliminated in the first round. The Cavs, Thunder, Knicks and Nuggets were eliminated in the second round.
