Michigan is no stranger to this stage either. He made it to the Frozen Four for the 28th time, an NCAA record, including three years in a row. But getting past the semifinals has been the program's Achilles heel ever since it beat BC in overtime to win the national title in 1998. They have won one of the past eight semifinal matchups, but have lost in the final national championship (to the University of Denver in 2022 and Quinnipiac in 2023) in each of the last two Frozen Four years.
The Wolverines (23-14-3) need to knock off two more No. 1 seeds to break their title drought. After defeating top seed Michigan State in the NCAA regional finals on March 31st, the team will face No. 1 overall seed BC (33-5-1), which has won 14 straight games and has won four games in the top four. Six scorers in the country.
If they advance, they will face either Boston University or the University of Denver.
However, after a middling performance in the first half, Michigan improved in the final stages of the season. They have won eight of their last 10 games and are the most experienced team remaining.
The Wolverines may be the underdogs in this year's Frozen 4, but they hope they can learn from their past two appearances.
“I think that's one of the biggest things we've learned from all the conversations we've had, it's not that the past has been negative, it's just that we're easily distracted,” head coach Brandon Nowrat said. Brandon Nowrat said. Frozen Four. “If you ask the players, I don't think they're just excited that we've been here in the past. I think they're ready to go.
“This year, we might look back in five, 10, 15 years and be happy that we made it to Frozen 4 for the third time in a row, but we're here to win. We have to earn it and we have a lot of work to do, starting Thursday.”
