Countdown to the start of the new College Football Playoff.
The 2024-25 season will be the first to feature a 12-team playoff instead of the four-team format that has been in place since the 2014 season.
On Wednesday, the College Football Playoff officially released the schedule for the 2024-25 playoffs, which will feature four rounds: the first round, quarterfinals, semifinals and national championship.
Here's the complete 2024-25 College Football Playoff schedule:
Round 1
First round matches will involve teams seeded 5th through 12th and will be played in the home stadium of the higher seed (5th through 8th).
Friday, December 20
- First Round, Match 1: 8 p.m. ET, ABC/ESPN
December 21 (Saturday)
- First round, second match: 12 p.m. ET, TNT
- 1st round, match 3: 4 p.m. ET, TNT
- First round, match 4: 8 p.m. ET, ABC/ESPN
Quarter finals
The top four seeds advance to the quarterfinals.
The quarterfinals and semifinals alternate each year among six bowl games: the Cotton Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl, Peach Bowl, Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl.
The Fiesta Bowl, Peach Bowl, Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl will serve as quarterfinals in 2024-25.

Wednesday, January 1

The Orange Bowl and Cotton Bowl will be the semifinals of the 2024-25 College Football Playoff.
