The U.S. Olympic Teams for Skateboarding, BMX Freestyle, Breaking and Sport Climbing were decided this weekend in Budapest during the second round of the Olympic Qualification Series.
Twenty American players were selected for the Paris team throughout the series.
The most dramatic event was the men's park skateboarding.
Skateboarding will be competing for the first time at the Tokyo Olympics, but after narrowly missing out on qualifying, Tom Schaer needed to finish in the top two to snatch the final American spot in Paris from Jagger Eaton.
list: US athletes qualify for Paris Olympics
Schaar, 24, edged out Eaton for second place behind Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Keegan Palmer of Australia and moved up to fourth in the World Olympic Qualifiers behind American Tate Carew, Palmer and American Gavin Bottger.
“I kept calculating last night what I needed and in the end I thought, 'I just need to get first or second place,'” Schaal said, according to the Olympic Information Service.
Eaton was ranked fifth in the World Olympic Qualifiers but did not qualify for the Paris Games because countries are only allowed to send three skaters per event to the qualifiers.
Eaton, the Tokyo Olympic bronze medallist in street skating and the 2023 world park champion, was aiming to compete in both events in Paris. He qualified in the street event alongside compatriots Nyjah Huston and Chris Joslin.
The U.S. Women's Olympic Skateboarding Team is made up of Tokyo Olympians Bryce Wettstein (park) and Mariah Duran (street), as well as Olympic newcomers Ruby Lilly and Mina Steth (park), Paige Hayne and Po Pinson (street).
The 16-year-old Hayne is the youngest American athlete to have qualified for the Paris Olympics in any event so far, although many sports have yet to announce their rosters.
In women's street skating, Tokyo Olympic gold medalist Momiji Nishitani was not selected for Japan's team for the Paris Games.
Three years ago, at age 13, she became the youngest Summer Olympic gold medalist since 1960 and the second-youngest woman to win a Summer Olympic title after American diver Marjorie Gestring in 1936, according to the National Association of Olympic Athletes.
Andy MacDonald, the 1996 X Games vertical jump champion, qualified for Great Britain in the men's park event at age 50.
BMX Freestyle: Hannah Roberts leads the U.S. team
In BMX freestyle, five-time world champion and Tokyo Olympic silver medalist Hannah Roberts won in Budapest and qualified for the Paris Games.
Roberts will join Peris Venegas, who placed fourth in Tokyo, on the U.S. women's BMX freestyle team.
Tokyo Olympians Justin Dowell and Marcus Christopher make up the U.S. men's BMX freestyle team that made its Olympic debut three years ago.
Tokyo Olympic gold medallists Charlotte Worthington of Great Britain and Logan Martin of Australia failed to qualify for the Paris Games through the Olympic Qualification Series, but both can compete in the Olympics if selected by their countries.
Sport climbing: Brooke Labatou returns to the Olympics
Tokyo Olympians Brooke Labatu and Zach Hammer have qualified to compete in Budapest and will join the U.S. Sport Climbing Team.
Rabotou, who placed fifth in his climbing debut at the Tokyo Olympics, won both the bouldering and lead combined events in the Olympic Qualification Series.
At 18, Hammer is the youngest member of the U.S. climbing team and will be competing in her first Olympic Games in the speed event.
Natalia Grossman, Emma Hunt, Piper Kelly, Colin Duffy, Jessie Grupper and Samuel Watson have already qualified.
Nathaniel Coleman, the only American climbing medalist at the Tokyo Olympics (silver), has decided not to compete in any Olympic qualifiers.
BREAKING: Jeffro beats Gravity to take final spot
Americans Logan Edler (B-girl Logistx) and Jeffrey Lewis (B-boy Jeffro) reached the quarterfinals in Budapest, qualifying for breaking's Olympic debut.
They will join 2023 world men's champion Victor Montalvo and 2023 Pan American Games champion Sunny Choi, who have already qualified.
Rui was locked in a fierce battle with Miguel Rosario (B-Boy Gravity) for the last spot on the U.S. men's team, who could qualify with a win in the quarterfinals. If Rui and Rosario both won their quarterfinals, they would face off in the semifinals for an Olympic spot.
