An 11-year-old boy suffered severe burns after attempting a martial arts stunt at a celebration event. Tamil actor and politician Vijay A birthday party was held in Chennai's Neelankarai area on Saturday and a video of the incident went viral on social media.
In the video, the boy can be seen trying to break a pile of burning tiles with his hands. His hands caught fire, causing him to panic and take dangerous action. The boy frantically tried to put out the fire by waving his hands, but the stage also caught fire. Bystanders quickly jumped on the stage to help put out the fire.
According to The News Minute, Sergeant Balu of Neelankarai J8 police station said the boy sustained three to five percent burns on his right hand, but no action will be taken against the event organisers as per the request of the boy's family.
Notably, the event was held despite Vijay asking his fans and Tamil Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) officials not to celebrate his 50th birthday as a tribute to the over 50 people who lost their lives in the Kalakurichi moonshine tragedy.
Tweeting from the official account of his newly formed political party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam, Vijay wrote in Tamil: “The news of over 25 people dying after consuming counterfeit liquor in Karunapuram area of Kallakurichi district is shocking and heartbreaking. My heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and I pray to God for a speedy recovery for those undergoing treatment.”
