The Los Angeles Lakers have yet to decide on their next head coach, but with each passing day, the field is narrowing down. From Ty Lue to Dan Hurley, it looks like the team will choose JJ Redick as their next coach. It's a move that everyone in the NBA has an opinion on.
Former Laker and 11-time NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony spoke about JJ Redick's coaching abilities during an episode of the 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, and in Anthony's eyes, Redick could be a smart choice as the Lakers could look to rejuvenate in the near future.
“I'm just saying I brought Frank. [Vogel]”You win a championship, you're out,” Anthony said. “We bring in Darvin Ham, you're out. Dan Hurley's not going to play. I'm not taking the job. If I were the Lakers, I don't know how much longer LeBron's going to be here, but AD is [Anthony Davis] To some extent, to build the team… So if this is a holistic, big-picture thing, why not try and get a young, rebuilding guy like J.J. Redick? You're going to be in rebuild mode… The bar is so high in LA that I don't think they even know who to put in that seat.”
While most doubt whether JJ Redick can coach the Lakers, despite never having coached in his life, Anthony believes he is a smart guy, and most importantly, he will be coaching arguably the smartest player of all time in LeBron James.
“I think JJ is a very smart guy. He really knows a lot about sports,” Anthony said. “How does that apply to coaching? It sounds simple, but when you're playing and you're coaching arguably the best player in the world, it's funny because I think I know LeBron very well … I believe he's saying, 'Do what you have to do.'”
It remains to be seen who the Lakers will select as their next head coach in this never-ending saga, but the selection of JJ Redick may finally bring it to a close.
