The Bahrain Boxing Federation hosted its first ever National Championships, with female elite, male youth and male elite boxers competing for the title.
The competition venue for the National Championships was the Table Tennis Hall in Isa Town. A One Star Umpire Course was also organised on the occasion of the Bahrain National Championships, led by John Wace from Wales and Mohamed Braham from Tunisia.
The Kingdom's first national boxing championship was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Hamad Al Khalifa. The Bahrain Martial Arts Council and General Sports Authority also supported the Bahrain Boxing Federation in the tournament.
In early 2019, new management created a better environment for the sport and the country returned to the international boxing business. Tony Davis is the head coach of the national team and was the driving force behind this first ever Bahrain National Championship, arranging several organizational matters for the tournament.
JD Boxing's Mariam Khamis competed in a recent national boxing event, defeating Rosie Jessop in the women's bantamweight (54kg) final. Khamis had to stay focused until the final gong to claim Bahrain's first ever women's national title.
Another member of JD Boxing, Yousef Bouzgaloo, won the youth light heavyweight (80kg) final over Nikhil Wagnani. Two further youth winners were Yousuf Abdallah in the light welterweight (63.5kg) and Abdulrahman Ahmed in the super heavyweight (+92kg), both of whom won their finals by unanimous decision.
Tariq Raed became Bahrain's first elite men's national champion, defeating Hamad Al-Mannai in the flyweight (51kg) final, while Omar Budahei won the featherweight (57kg) division after winning all three rounds against Nazim Khan.
Prakash Limbu represented Nepal in the second tournament.and He competed in the World Olympic Boxing Qualifiers but was not good enough to beat Mohammed Lukwago in the ensuing final. JD Boxing's Mohammed Fakhr dominated Danny Elahib in the light middleweight (71kg) final to win his fourth elite men's title.
Ali Assad and Okafor Chukwumaobim both won their title bouts by 3-2 split decisions to claim the light heavyweight (80kg) and heavyweight (92kg) titles. Augustine Isaac was unbeatable in the super heavyweight (+92kg) division, defeating Amir Ndusha in the first round in the final.
