The U.S. Team field hockey roster for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games showcases a team with every player with NCAA ties, highlighting collegiate sports as a vital training ground for future Olympians. The roster features 16 current and former NCAA student-athletes from 12 schools and six conferences.
“I think the reason the U.S. is so good at Olympic sports is because of the support of the NCAA,” said Kelsey Bing, the U.S. team goalkeeper and former Stanford University star.
“There's a lot of opportunities to play in the NCAAs and I think it's a really valuable experience for a lot of people,” said Abby Tamer, a current student-athlete at the University of Michigan who is taking part in the 2023-24 Olympic redshirt season to train with the U.S. team.

Connections with the NCAA
Team USA players have won a total of nine NCAA titles. North Carolina native Shoulder leads the way with four wins, and since starting their winning streak in 2018, the team has won five of the past six. Fellow Tar Heel Hoffman was a senior on the 2018 NCAA championship team. Connecticut native Kisha won two championships. Northwestern native Zimmer and North Carolina alum Sessa each won one in their collegiate careers. These accomplishments highlight the strength of Team USA's talent, with many members already proving themselves on the collegiate stage.
Olympic experience
All 16 team members will be making their Olympic debuts after Team USA Field Hockey failed to qualify for the 2020 Olympics. The U.S. team qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympics after a string of impressive performances at the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers in Ranchi, India in January. The U.S. entered the tournament as the 15th-ranked team. In their first pool match, they defeated hosts and No. 6 ranked India, 1-0, followed by a 2-0 win over No. 19 ranked Italy. Team members then defeated No. 10 ranked New Zealand, 1-0, in their final pool match to advance to the semifinals. Facing No. 9 ranked Japan in the semifinals, the U.S. team knew the stakes were high with winners advancing to Paris. Despite falling behind, the U.S. staged a thrilling comeback with two goals in the fourth quarter to ultimately win the match 2-1 and qualify for the Olympics.
